Modern slavery is a heinous crime and abuse on human rights. It is constituted in the UK Modern Slavery Act 2015 (the “Act”) by the offenses of slavery, servitude, forced or compulsory labor, and human trafficking. This statement is made pursuant to Section 54 of the Act and is for financial year ending June 30, 2017 and this statement’s use of the term “modern slavery” has the meaning given in the Act.

Freeman is a family-owned company with 90+ locations worldwide and over 7,000 employees. As a responsible and global company, Freeman is fully supportive of the Act and its intention to stop modern slavery in all its forms. Freeman believes all workers in its supply chain deserve a fair and ethical workplace. Freeman expects the same attitude from its employees and from whom it conducts business with.
Business and Supply Chain
Freeman strives to cultivate a collaborative and diverse work environment and supply chain. Accordingly, Freeman recognizes the scope of modern slavery and the many challenges it presents. Freeman intends to regularly evaluate its systems in place to safeguard against modern slavery and is committed to implementing and enforcing effective systems and controls to ensure that modern slavery is not taking place in its business or supply chains. Freeman has compliance and enterprise risk management teams in place to review and evaluate risk and, if necessary, assist in audits of supply chain providers. Additionally, Freeman endeavors to be transparent within supply chain so it can better understand where risks lie and better prioritize systems designed to eliminate modern slavery. For example, Freeman has a Certified Partner Program which asks suppliers to agree to a Partner Code of Conduct that requires compliance with all applicable laws, including the Act.
A component of Freeman’s growth strategy involves the further expansion of its operations and client base internationally. Operating in international markets requires significant resources and management attention and subjects Freeman to many different regulatory, economic and political risks. Freeman regularly keeps up to date with changing legislation and best practices through regular reviews as well as internal and external audits and keeps its employees informed through appropriate training and updates.
Freeman has a number of corporate policies in place that emphasize human rights, diversity and training including Freeman’s Code of Ethics, Corporate Social Responsibility Guidelines, Procurement Policy and Employment Policy. Freeman regularly trains its employees on its Code of Ethics and encourages employees to raise any ethical concerns they may have. Freeman also invites members of the public to raise any concern or suspicion of modern slavery in any part of Freeman’s business or related supply chain.
This Modern Slavery Act Transparency Statement will be regularly reviewed by Freeman (at least annually) and may be amended from time to time.
