BookCon 2026
How the BookCon Reboot Sold Out in Two Hours
BookCon has always been more than a trade show. It’s a destination where attendees meet author heroes and dive into a novel mashup of storytelling and pop culture.
Watch how our teams helped ReedPop relaunch this event as the ultimate book-fan experience following a seven-year pause.
BKCN Comeback Backstory
After a seven-year hiatus, ReedPop envisioned a new chapter for BookCon.
Just like any good story, the stakes were high:
- An event relaunch that needed to feel familiar and culturally relevant, but also fresh
- A blank expo floor for the team to concept, design, and fill
- An event relaunch that needed to feel familiar and culturally relevant, but also fresh
Setting the Scene
With only a mood board, Freeman worked closely with longtime partner ReedPop to conceptualize and build the BookCon booth and activation at the 2025 New York City Comic Con (NYCC) to announce the paused conference’s return. Thanks to the incredible response from fans at NYCC, that exhibit design became the foundation for BookCon 2026, a reimagined full-scale fan experience.
Deconstructing the relaunch arc
Using Freeman rental structures with branded graphics combined with custom-fabricated elements, the thoughtfully designed 20’ x 20’ exhibit was designed and built to expand beyond the single event.
- Living greenery walls with 3D BKCN letters
- Floor-to-ceiling bookcase walls
- Trumpet vine arches
- Multiple shareworthy photo moments across the event (from exhibit hall to lounge)
- Stage decoration
- Bookswap activation that had fans lining up
From New Chapter to Bestseller
The 2026 event exceeded all expectations. When the event’s comeback was announced at NYCC 2025, conference tickets sold out in approximately two hours. By the time BookCon opened at the Javits Center on April 18, 2026, fan-ticipation spread, bringing in 25,000 BookCon devotees who fully immersed themselves in the storied world they’d missed.
