John O’Connell, Jr.

Board Member

John O'Connell is the immediate past President of Freeman and a member of the Freeman Board of Directors.

Prior to retiring from Freeman in 2014, John was an involved leader, personally producing several of Freeman’s largest shows including the New York International Auto Show and the Boston Seafood Show. He had over 30 years of industry-related experience which he utilized to manage all company operations in the U.S. and Canada including the exposition, event and audiovisual divisions.

John is involved in industry organizations and continues to contribute to the industry’s development, having served on the board of the Center for Exhibition Industry Research (CEIR) and on subcommittees of the International Association for Exhibitions & Events (IAEE). He has also served on related boards and committees, including the Providence Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau and is a past chair of the IAEE Labor Committee.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He is active in both alumni and foundation programs for his alma mater.
